Oh, Mickey, You're So Fine...

This week has been a rough one for me, I had surgery last Monday followed by a lengthy visit to the emergency room a few days after. I'm still on the road to recovery, so taking photos recently hasn't been possible. In all my down time though I found these photos from earlier this summer that I never uploaded.

For this look, I wanted to play with layers that could be added/subtracted throughout the day. Much of my wardrobe is black, but here I challenged myself to keep the basis of the outfit light, neutral shades (gray, light wash denim, and white leather). I then threw on this thrifted light flannel button-down. Thrift stores/second-hand stores will always have a wide variety of these in every color and pattern imaginable so there really is no reason to spend much on these. I picked up this one for less than $5! And it's perfect because this "blocked" pattern has been showing up everywhere this season.

"BAD" Ass Camouflage

I made sure not to miss out on an opportunity to wear green this year for St. Patrick's Day. I don't have much green in my wardrobe, but I do own some camouflage pieces and today I chose this vintage USMC military jacket. I found it at a thrift store for only $10.

Camo is such an effortlessly bad ass print. This jacket is so perfectly warn in too. I also added some buttons I've acquired in the past year and small metal studs. My buttons from left to right: Knives by Andy Warhol, cover art from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and a Ouiji Board. I try to always keep studs around for craft projects (especially personalizing thrifted items!). This week I found a couple packages of small studs at Michael's craft store. You can also find cheap studded belts at the thrift store and remove the studs to use later.

I also painted this "BAD" t-shirt. I love singular words on t-shirts, and couldn't find exactly what I wanted in a store so I decided to make my own. Painting shirts is probably my favorite craft project! I usually load up on plain t-shirts and fabric paint during sales at craft stores. And for inspiration, I'll usually research fonts (I use FontSpace!) and use those as a reference when drawing my design.

Leather and Lace

I love this oversized sweater I found recently at my local thrift store. It's really versatile and can be dressed up or down. I really enjoy the contrast created here by pairing it with edgy leather pieces.

Thrifting tips to achieve this look: Make sure to check ALL sections when thrifting. Oversized sweaters and shirts can be paired with tights and worn as dresses.

It's a Plaid Plaid Plaid Plaid World

Big Trend for Fall: Plaid. I usually wear this plaid skirt in an "edgier" way but today I challenged myself to make it more girly. So I inspired this outfit by the classic school girl look by pairing it with a white blouse that I got thrifting and a blazer from H&M. (Unfortunately it was way too cold to take pictures in just the blazer.) To make the look more personalized, I added a red necklace and earrings and a leather jacket.

London Dungeon

A classic look: skinny jeans and a leather jacket. Change it up by adding patterned pants, like these striped ones from UrbanOG. I love these because I have a slight [huge] obsession with Beetlejuice. I paired this "London" t-shirt with it to balance the white and the black and complete the look.

Thrifted Shirt to Stylish Dress

Don't be afraid to picture things in a new way while thrifting. I gave this over sized shirt a new life by wearing it as a loose fitted dress. I love how the black detailing starts at the waist making it easy to streamline my legs by pairing it with black tights and black leather ankle boots. I amped up the look by adding matching red lipstick and my favorite hat.

Violet Night

To achieve this look pair your favorite patterned shorts with a complimentary pair of tights and a neutral top. For added warmth, pair with over the knee socks, boots, and a fun furry coat.
